Unemployment is a serious problem in my country (Mozambique) and reaches young people who intend to go to the job market. I never supposed one day I would face unemployment, but I faced it when I finished my college degree.

The first months that I was unemployed were scary and I only saw the negative side. One day, I found out my mindset does not help me anything.

Hence, I decided to adopt a growth mindset and learn how to transform unemployment into a personal development opportunity. Here are 4 strategies to make this transformation:

Strategy Number 1. Invest in self-development

Enjoy the time you are unemployed to know more about yourself, find out your highlights and lowlights. You should do a personal SWOT analysis for best results.

Investing in self knowledge will help you define strategies to stand out in job search as well as bring benefits for other areas of your life.

Strategy Number 2. See unemployment as a temporary stage

Suppose each day is your last day unemployed. Enjoy this stage to put old projects into practice, explore your creative side and meet new people.

Strategy Number 3. Move away from toxic people

Are you surrounded by people who constantly criticize you? Are you surrounded by people who love to gossip? You have to move away from these people because they delay your personal development. Spend time with positive people instead of toxic people.

Strategy Number 4. Learn something new

There are sites offering free online courses. So you need to decide what you want to learn. I suggest you learn things that bring benefits for your life and career. Example: New languages and personal finance.

This is how I transformed unemployment into a personal development opportunity. I shared this content because I believe that will bring a positive impact to your life.
